The Lab will be whatever we, as a group, want it to be. It should be a safe testing ground for ideas and new works, an actor’s gym (giving us a chance to keep the creative muscles working even during the slow periods) and anything else we can think of.
There will be a "Lab Moderator" in charge of setting the agenda (so everyone knows what we will be working on any given session). Audition materials will be given first slot (whether they are on the schedule or not) and feedback will be given at the request of the actor, or not. This will give us a chance to do the audition for other people before doing it for the director.
The rest of the agenda will be determined by what people would like to bring in.
At the end of each Lab session, we’ll ask what people want to work on in the future. Some ideas:
Readings of things you are writing.
- A "5 Minute Max" scene where you work with your scene partner outside of the Lab and then bring it in.
- Re-doing old NTC assignments (ie. Movie monologues, extended character scenes, rockstars, etc).
- Teaching something.
- Anything else your mind can imagine.
We will then gauge people’s interest in doing these things and create the next agenda from there. If we have more things to work on than we have time for, we will prioritize based on the amount of people that would be working on something. Every effort will be made to find time at a future Lab for things that we didn’t have time for.
The Lab will meet every other Wednesday. This is subject to change as things evolve. If we have a lot of things that people want to work on, we may meet more regularly. The Lab is always open to any and all NTC alumni. If you are busy and can’t make it, we completely understand, and will welcome you back when you’re back in town or you have the time again.
